NORTH PARK, CA (May 6, 2019) – One man is dead and three other people are injured following a pedestrian, multi-vehicle crash on the southbound I-805 freeway, near the El Cajon Boulevard off-ramp.
The crash, which was first reported at 12:50 a.m., occurred when a white 2014 Kia Optima collided with a box truck, causing the box truck to overturn and the Kia to hit the center divider. According to California Highway Patrol, both drivers got out of their vehicles. It was then that the Kia driver was struck and killed by a third vehicle, a black 2016 Mercedes Benz driven by a 28 year old man.
First responders pronounced the Kia driver, 31, dead at the scene. The CHP stated that the driver of the box truck and the two occupants in the Mercedes were taken with non-life threatening injuries to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.
Only one lane was open on the southbound I-805 while authorities worked to clear the accident. All lanes were open again by 6:30 a.m.
