BERKELEY, CA (December 25, 2019) – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision resulting in a car fire on Interstate 80, east of Gilman Street.
The fatal collision was reported just before 5:30 a.m., after a car initially spun out of control into the center divider. That initial crash was then followed by three other vehicles, including a Toyota Corolla that spun out across the westbound lanes before being hit by the fourth vehicle.
As a result of the final collision, the Toyota was totaled and burst into flames, killing the driver. It is unknown if anybody else involved suffered injuries.
Traffic on the westbound I-80 had to be guided through the slow lane for about two hours, before all lanes were reopened again.
