LANCASTER, CA (May 19, 2019) – A man is dead and a woman is critically injured following a crash involving a motorcycle and four other vehicles at the intersection of 15th Street East and Avenue I.
The fatal crash, which occurred around 1:30 a.m., was initially caused by a collision between a motorcycle and a red pickup truck. A man riding the motorcycle, only described as being in his 30s, was struck by the pickup truck when it made a left turn into the intersection when the motorcycle was approaching.
The Los Angeles Sheriff Department stated that a Deputy witnessed the crash, and along with several other good Samaritans, ran to help. It was then that another vehicle entered the intersection and struck a woman who came to help the motorcyclist. The car then crashed into two more vehicles.
The motorcyclist, who was trapped under the pickup truck following the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman who was hit by the second car is in critical condition. According to Lt. Larry Dietz with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, the identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of his family.
It is still unclear whether or not drugs or alcohol were a factor in the deadly accident.
