SONOMA COUNTY, CA (June 26, 2019) – One woman is dead and two others are injured after a multi-vehicle crash on River Road, east of Olivet Road, near Martinelli Winery.
Police first received reports of the accident around 1:21 p.m. The accident occurred when a silver Hyundai Santa Fe traveling east swerved into oncoming traffic in the opposite lane for an unknown reason. The Hyundai side-swiped a white Ford Ranger heading west, which spun off into the dirt. A white Honda CR-V driving behind the Ford could not stop in time and took damage to the driver’s side.
The unidentified female driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. A man and a woman riding in the Hyundai reported moderate injuries and were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Ford, Mark Rudd, was uninjured, but his truck was totaled. The back wheels fell off in the crash, and the axle was torn off and sticking out. The California Highway Patrol stated that neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the deadly collision.
Both directions of River Road were closed until 4:45 while the crash site was investigated.
