VICTORVILLE, CA (May 18, 2019) – A woman was killed after a man fleeing from a fender-bender he caused ran a red light and slammed into her vehicle at the intersection of Luna Road and Highway 395.
The incident happened just before 7 a.m., when the driver of a 2018 blue Honda Civic initially rear-ended a man on his way to work in his white Dodge Challenger at the intersection of Palmdale Road and Highway 395.
Michael Stipo, the driver of the Dodge, stated that he was waiting at a red light when he was rear-ended. He gestured at the driver of the Honda to pull over, and it appeared he was going to, before making a right turn on Highway 395 and fleeing.
Stipo pulled out his cell phone to record the driver’s license plate, but he ended up capturing the fatal crash instead. The Honda driver ran a red light while fleeing, striking and killing an African-American woman driving a silver 2007 Mercedes Benz. He also killed himself in the collision.
First responders pronounced the driver of the Mercedes Benz dead at the scene. A female passenger of the Mercedes was airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries.
Investigators combed through nearby fields to make sure there was no child in the car that might have been ejected. The road was closed for hours while they continued to investigate.
