SANTA ANA, CA (May 13, 2019) – Two men suffered life-threatening injuries and are in critical condition following a two-vehicle, big-rig involved accident near McFadden Avenue and South Harbor Boulevard.
The collision happened around 12:30 p.m. when the white Acura the two young men were riding in was clipped by a truck as they attempted to make a left turn into a store. As a result of the initial accident, the Acura spun off and crashed head-on into a semi-truck, then flipping onto its roof. A handful of witnesses rushed over to free the men, helping to flip the car back over.
Firefighters on the scene had to use special machinery to cut off the roof of the car and free the men after bystanders helped flip the car back onto its tires. Santa Ana Police’s Cpl. Anthony Bertagna stated, “[It was] an impressive sight to see that mass of people quickly respond towards something like this.”

The driver of the Acura was unresponsive when first responders arrived, but the passenger was conscious, telling a bystander, “I only can move my hands. I don’t feel my legs.” Both men, only described as being in their 20s, were taken to UCI Medical Center with major injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
The Santa Ana Police Department is still investigating exactly what lead up to the near-fatal crash.
