GARDENA, CA (December 29, 2019) – Two people were killed and two others were injured when a Tesla ran a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.
Around 12:30 a.m., a black Tesla was exiting the westbound 91 Freeway and ran a red light, striking a Honda Civic turning left off of Vermont Avenue on to Artesia Blvd. The two passengers of the Honda, a 40-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A worker at the nearby ARCO gas station stated that many people heard the crash and attempted to help those involved. The two passengers of the Tesla were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
LAPD has not made any arrests, but stated that the investigation is ongoing. The driver of the Tesla was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed moments before the crash.
The intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Vermont Avenue were closed following the crash until around 8:15 a.m.
