EL MONTE, CA (November 17, 2019) – Two people were killed in a six-vehicle collision on the 10 freeway, just west of Valley Blvd.
Just before 5:30 a.m., a 52-year-old man driving a 2003 Acura westbound hit the center divider and came to rest blocking the carpool and fast lanes. Immediately following the initial crash, a 2019 Ford Transit collided with the Acura. The driver of the Acura was ejected into the roadway.
Shortly thereafter, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle hit the Ford, causing the rider to eject from the motorcycle, also into the roadway.
Three more cars followed in the pile-up: a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E350, a 2002 Chevrolet S-10, and a 2017 Honda Civic, which all struck the Acura. Both the driver of the Acura and the motorcycle rider were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Two others reportedly suffered minor injuries, but it is unclear which vehicle they were riding in. The cause of the initial crash is still under investigation.
All westbound lanes of the 10 freeway were closed until 9 a.m.
