MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 21, 2020) – Two people were seriously injured in a suspected DUI crash at Shaffer Road and Eucalyptus Avenue, around 2:30 a.m.
Alejandro Cortes Mandujano, the driver of a Honda Accord, was partially ejected from the windshield when first responders arrived. His passenger, an unidentified female, was sticking part way out of the opened passenger door.
Authorities determined that Mandujano, who was traveling eastbound on Eucalyptus Avenue, pulled out into the intersection directly into the path of a Dodge Durango, which was traveling north on Shaffer Road. The Dodge was unable to stop in time and collided with the passenger side of the Honda.
Mandujano was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI. Both he and his passenger were transported to a local hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the dodge sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital following the wreck.
