SAN RAFAEL, CA (September 18, 2019) – A mom and her two young children, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old, were injured in an accident that resulted in their SUV catching fire on Highway 101.
CHP stated that the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on northbound Highway 101, just near the exit for Saint Vincent Drive. Two vehicles were involved, but authorities are still investigating how the collision initially happened, and how it caused one SUV involved to end up in an embankment.
Police initially believed the three passengers of that SUV, the mother and her two children, were ejected, as they were laying outside of the car when they arrived. Now they believe that someone helped remove them from the vehicle. First responders were able to make sure nobody else was in the car just before it caught fire.
The mother was airlifted to John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek, while her two children were transported to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and is cooperating in the investigation.
