WOODLAND, CA (June 18, 2019) – A 6-year-old is dead and four others are injured after a multi-vehicle, DUI involved crash on northbound Interstate 5.
The fatal accident happened just before 10 p.m. near County Road 22 when Shane Carlyle, who was speeding in his 2006 BMW, rear-ended a 2004 Nissan pickup truck. As a result, the Nissan flew off the road into an embankment, eventually landing in an open field, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 6-year-old boy in the Nissan was killed. Three other children- 6, 7, and 10 years old- were transported to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries. The driver of the Nissan, a 29-year-old man, suffered moderate injuries.
Carlyle, 34, was also transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. He will be booked into Yolo County jail on manslaughter and DUI charges.
The CHP said several other vehicles were involved in the crash, including one which overturned. Some northbound lanes of I-5 were closed to investigate and clean up the crash.
