BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 28, 2019) – Brian Christopher Chairez, 31, was killed when he was struck by a car while crossing the street on Buck Owens Boulevard.
Bakersfield Police responded to the deadly accident around 4:15 p.m. Chairez had been running across the street, outside of the crosswalk, when a sedan going northbound hit him. He suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the sedan that struck him stayed on the scene and cooperated with the police. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the fatal pedestrian accident.
Buck Owens Boulevard between Sillect Avenue and Rosedale Highway were shut down while Bakersfield Police investigated the scene. They reopened several hours later.
