Carter Yarborough Dies After Colliding With Patrol Vehicle on South Coast Highway 101 Near C Street
ENCINITAS, CA (July 2, 2018) – The 48-year-old motorcyclist who perished on June 24 after colliding with a deputy vehicle on South Coast Highway 101 near C Street has been identified.
According to the medical examiner’s office, Carter Yarborough was riding northbound at a high rate of speed on South Coast Highway 101, just north of C Street, when he struck a southbound sheriff’s vehicle that attempted a left-hand turn.
The 11:30 a.m. collision fatally injured the Valhalla High School cross country coach after he had struck the deputy’s passenger side door. The officer was not harmed in the crash.
According to witnesses, Yarborough might have been speeding, but his family believes otherwise. More investigation is underway as officials determine the leading cause of the wreck.
