MADERA COUNTY, CA (February 29, 2020) – A head-on crash resulting in a car fire killed two and injured three others on Highway 145, near Madera Ranchos.
Around 2:40 a.m., a 29-year old man driving westbound in a 2015 Chrysler 300 collided with a 37-year-old woman driving eastbound in a 2003 Honda Accord when he attempted to pass a motorist by entering the lane of opposing traffic.
The Chrysler traveled off of the freeway, through a fence, and overturned before bursting into flames. The Accord spun out and came to a stop blocking the eastbound side of the highway. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the Honda and one passenger in the Chrysler sustained major injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
At this time, it is still unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal crash, according to CHP.
