SAN DIEGO, CA (February 22, 2020) – Julia Perez Cornejo, 73, Maria De La Luz Diaz, 67, and an unidentified 23-year-old woman were killed when the charter bus they were traveling in crashed on the I-15. Seventeen other bus passengers were injured and hospitalized following the crash.
The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m., when the driver of the bus lost control and swerved off the Interstate in the Fallbrook area, down an embankment. The weather condition was reportedly rainy at the time.
The bus, which was traveling from El Monte to San Ysidro, was carrying 20 passengers, plus one driver. A 5-year-old boy was among those injured, and is said to be in critical condition.
California Highway Patrol do not suspect drugs or alcohol as a factor in the deadly crash. In a Nov. 5th inspection, a bus with the same license plate number as the one that crashed was found to have windshield wipers that were “defective” or “inoperative,” according to records online.
