SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 3, 2019) – Four people were killed in a wrong-way crash involving a Volkswagen sedan and a taxi on Highway 101, just north of Paul Avenue.
Mary Miller, 57, and Judson Bergman, 62, were traveling in a National taxi cab around 12:30 a.m. when they struck head-on by 34-year-old Emilie Ross’s silver 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio. Ross had been driving south in the northbound lanes of the Interstate 280 junction when she collided with the taxi.
Miller and Bergman, who were tourists from Illinois, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Berkant Ahmed, their 42-year-old taxi driver, and Ross were also pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The northbound lanes of Highway 101 were closed for seven hours while officials investigated and cleaned up the deadly crash site. Investigators are now saying Ross was possibly impaired during the incident.
