SACRAMENTO, CA (August 12, 2019) – Michael Gutierrez, 50, was severely injured, and three others suffered minor injuries in a four-vehicle accident on Highway 50, near Harbor Boulevard.
Gutierrez, the president of Sacramento City College, was stopped in traffic in the fast lane of Highway 50 in his 2017 Toyota, when a 2003 Ford struck him, around 8:30 a.m. The initial collision then caused two other cars to subsequently crash in a chain reaction.
Gutierrez sustained major injuries and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center. Three other parties involved sustained minor injuries. Gutierrez is expected to recover, according to Kaitlyn MacGregor, a spokesperson for Sacramento City College, though his injuries remain significant.
The California Highway Patrol has made no arrests in the accident, as they do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be factors in the collision.
