SAN MATEO, CA (February 21, 2020) – A pedestrian that was attempting to help the victim of a car accident on Highway 101 was struck and killed by another vehicle that then drove off.
Just before 2 a.m., California Highway Patrol received reports of the initial accident in the southbound lanes of Highway 101, near 3rd Avenue. Minutes later, they received reports of a pedestrian that had been hit.
Some witnesses reported that the Good Samaritan, described as a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s, was hit by either a blue or green vehicle SUV, possibly a Scion or a Subaru. That vehicle fled the scene and still has yet to be located.
The driver in the initial crash reportedly suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Three lanes of the freeway were closed until just before 6:30 for clean-up and investigation.
