LONG BEACH, CA (May 15, 2019) – Ricky Gonzalez, 60, was killed when a hit-and-run driver plowed into him while he was crossing the street on Pacific Avenue at 16th Street.
The crash happened at 8:25 p.m., when a woman driving a silver Volkswagen Jetta did not yield to him as he crossed the street in a marked crosswalk. The driver pulled over momentarily, but ultimately left Gonzalez in the street with critical injuries, just before police arrived. The victim was found lying across the southbound lanes of Pacific Avenue.
According to police, Gonzalez was transported to the hospital in critical condition following the accident. He died the next day from his injuries. Authorities identified him as a homeless man from Long Beach.
The driver was described as wearing black leggings with sandals and a blue tank top. The Long Beach Police Department are still asking the public for any information to track her down.
