BALDWIN PARK, CA (April 26, 2019) – One Norwalk man is dead and another injured after a pedestrian/four-vehicle accident early Friday morning on the Eastbound 10 freeway near Francisquito Avenue.
Vinson Thomasi, 25, was a passenger in a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he was involved in a minor accident with another vehicle, a 2016 Volkswagen Passat. The Monte Carlo was immobilized and stopped traffic in the fast lane.
Officer E. Esparaza, from the Baldwin Park area CHP, released a written statement stating that shortly after the minor collision, around 3:05 a.m, Thomasi exited and stood outside of the vehicle. During this time, a 2013 Toyota Prius came upon the scene, striking and killing Thomasi after failing to notice him and stop in time. The driver of the Prius, an 18-year-old woman from Ontario, then went on to hit another car, a 1995 Toyota Camry.
Thomasi was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The 66-year-old driver of the Camry, the driver of the Passat and the driver of the Monte Carlo were not injured in the accident. The driver of the Prius was treated for unknown injuries.
Drugs or alcohol is not believed to be an element in the fatal crash. Multiple lanes were closed until about 7 a.m to investigate and clean-up the scene.
