WESTLAKE, CA (June 12, 2020) – A man fled a crash on the 101 Freeway and was then killed in a second crash on Benton Way and Temple Street, around 7:45 a.m.
The man, the driver of a white Lexus, failed to remain at the scene of the initial crash to exchange details with the victim. The victim then managed to call over a sheriff’s deputy who was also on the freeway at the time.
The deputy caught up with the suspect who fled, and a pursuit began. It was then that the driver lost control of his vehicle on Benton Way at the intersection of Temple Street and hit another vehicle.
The Lexus turned over and erupted into flames. The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on scene and managed to pull the driver out, but he later died from his injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the second vehicle is said to be doing fine, although they complained of pain following the crash.
