South Los Angeles, CA (December 5, 2022) – Two LAPD officers were hospitalized after a Crenshaw crash involving a wrong-way driver in South Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Times, the crash happened around 5:00 pm.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported a Crenshaw crash involving a wrong-way driver and two LAPD officers.
Two LAPD officers were transported to a local hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.
According to the LAPD, the incident started when the officers were responding to a call for backup after a man was seen with a gun near Hillcrest Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Two officers went to the area with lights and siren activated in their patrol unit. As they were headed southbound onto Hillcrest, a wrong-way vehicle reportedly accelerated toward their vehicle.
The officer driving the patrol unit then swerved to avoid a head-on collision, but the wrong-way driver changed his direction and crashed into the passenger side.
The wrong-way driver, now identified as Jose Nicholas Lopez, was later arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
