CERRITOS, CA (July 2, 2019) – A 52-year-old man is dead and Manuel Guerrero is injured following a three-vehicle, big-rig involved accident on the southbound 605 freeway at Alondra Boulevard.
The accident was reported around 3 a.m., when the driver of a Kia rear-ended Guerrero in his Toyota. The force of the collision pushed the Toyota underneath the semi in front of it. The Kia driver, only identified as a 52-year-old man from Cerritos, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Guerrero, 68, suffered neck injuries and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. The driver of the big rig, 57-year-old Ki Ho Baek, was not injured in the fatal crash. California Highway Patrol reported that the Kia driver did not slow for upcoming traffic, and thus could not stop in time to avoid hitting Guerrero.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the accident. The three right lanes of the southbound 605 were closed until 7:30 a.m. following the incident.
