HIGHLAND PARK, CA (May 5, 2019) – Brothers Benny and Jesse Felix Zuniga, 25 and 19 respectively, were killed in a hit and run accident on Pollard Street, just moments from pulling up to their apartment.
The deadly crash occurred around 1 a.m when a pickup truck driving north on San Pascual Avenue struck their white Ford fusion heading west on Pollard Street. One witness claimed to see the pickup truck traveling at excessive speeds for the residential street- around 70 to 90 mph. The collision caused the brothers’ car to crash into three or four other cars, which were parked on the street.
The brothers’ girlfriend stated that Benny and Jesse were just about to arrive home from Paramount when the accident happened. Home surveillance footage shows the moment of the collision, along with the driver of the pickup truck exiting the car. He and a passenger fled the scene on foot.
The brothers’ car was so mangled, emergency services had to use special equipment to free them. The brothers’ bodies were removed from the scene of the accident early that morning.
It is still unclear whether or not the pickup truck is registered to either of the two wanted men. One of the brother’s girlfriend, Marisol Salazar, pleaded, “Please help us find the people who did this.” Authorities have stated that there is a $50,000 reward for information that leads to their arrest.
Officials don’t believe the accident was caused by street racing.
