WILLBROOK, CA (May 11, 2019) – Bethany Holguin, 23, was killed over Mother’s Day Weekend in a hit and run street racing crash at 131st Street and Towne Avenue. Her brother Emilio, 20, was also injured in the deadly crash. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. when Holguin was leaving to visit her mom in Hemet for Mother’s Day. She was on her way to pick up her 6-year-old daughter first when the 2005 Toyota Camry she was riding in was broadsided by a 2005 grey Infiniti traveling at high speeds. The Infiniti reportedly did not stop at the intersection prior to the incident.
The Infiniti’s driver and passenger immediately fled the scene, exiting their vehicle and entering the red sedan they had been racing with. Officials believe the sedan was possibly a Honda. Neighbors tried to help free Holguin from the mangled car, but neighbors said the wreckage was too severe.
Fabiola Rodriguez, who heard the crash from her home, where she was celebrating Mother’s Day with family, said, “I couldn’t do anything to help her. She was still alive and asking for help. But we couldn’t do anything because the car was in really, really bad condition.”
Another neighbor, Randy Jackson, stated, “The side impact was so severe, nobody could get her out. We couldn’t get her out.”
Bethany was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. The CHP is looking for multiple suspects in the fatal accident, including the driver of the Infiniti, who they believe is a man in his 30s.
