NORTH HILLS, CA (June 17, 2019) – Francisco Hernandez Rivas, 48, was killed and 5 others were injured in a crash on Haskell Avenue and Parthenia Street.
Around 5:35 a.m., a vehicle traveling north on Haskell Avenue struck another vehicle traveling west on Parthenia Street. The collision was between a black SUV and a white Lexus, though it was not stated which car crashed into the other. The accident caused the SUV to crash into a chain link fence, landing on its roof.
The driver of the SUV, Rivas, of North Hills, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured.
The driver of the Lexus, 27-year old Maritza Joana Lara, exited the vehicle and left the scene of the accident. Four other passengers in that vehicle were transported to the hospital in critical condition. According to Officer Mike Lopez with the Los Angeles Police Department, alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, as empty beer cans were found in the Lexus.
Police are still searching for Lara who fled the scene. Rivas leaves behind two teenager daughters.
