COMPTON, CA (May 7, 2019) – 20-year old Jennifer Lopez, of Compton, was killed in a hit and run accident around 9 p.m. on Alondra Boulevard near Compton Boulevard.
The Compton Sheriff’s Department believe that Lopez was driving eastbound in her black Nissan Altima on Alondra Boulevard when she was hit by a man in a blue Mitsubishi Montero traveling southbound on Bullis Road. The accident was captured on surveillance video.
Officials believe the driver of the Mitsubishi had run a red light prior to the accident, but that detail is still under investigation. The Mitsubishi driver fled the scene. The damage to Lopez’s vehicle was so bad, firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free her. However, Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members of Lopez stated that she was going to turn 21 in June, and that she was looking forward to starting a new job at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood.
Lopez’s cousin Ivonne Guzman asked for any of the witnesses of the accident to come forward in hopes of revealing the driver who fled the scene. “All we want is justice,” Guzman stated. “If you’re watching this, go to the police station. Turn yourself in. You killed a person.”
