Jennifer Nichols Killed in Trailer Accident in San Diego
San Diego, CA (February 7, 2022) – Jennifer Nichols (49) died after a boat fell off a trailer and crashed into the vehicle she was driving. She was the wife of interim San Diego Harbor Police Chief Kirk Nichols. The incident happened at around 6:30 pm on Saturday.
According to authorities, Jennifer Nichols was driving a 2016 Fiat 500 with her husband as a passenger. The boat trailer was on the back of a 2000 Mazda B3000 pickup truck when it became detached and fell. The boat slid across the roadway and into Nichols’ Fiat, which was going eastbound on state Route 94.

Responders took Nichols to the hospital. However, she died around three hours after the incident. Nichols’ husband also sustained minor injuries from the incident.
The pickup truck driver was identified as Robert Keith Thomas (28). He wasn’t harmed from the crash. Authorities arrested Thomas for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
