WILLOWBROOK, CA (September 1, 2019) – Jose Hernandez, 32, was struck and killed by a van as he was in line at a street food stand on South Alameda and 131st Street.
Around 2 a.m., Hernadez was with his wife getting food when a Metro bus suddenly swerved out of control and hit a van, which then hit three parked vehicles and pedestrians in line at a food stand. Hernandez, who was pinned underneath the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police reported that three pedestrians, one Metro bus passenger, and five passengers in other vehicles were also treated for injuries.
Hernandez leaves behind two young boys, as well as a 14-month old daughter. Police are still investigating, as it is still unclear why the Metro bus driver suddenly lost control.
