Napa County Bicycle Crash Killed Two Bicyclists after Lumber from Truck’s Flatbed Hit Them
Napa County, CA (October 17, 2023) – A Napa County bicycle crash caused fatal injuries to two bicyclists riding on the Silverado Trail after a lumber that had shifted on a truck’s flatbed struck them. According to CBS, the crash occurred around 11:00 am on Tuesday.

A Napa County bicycle crash resulted in the death of two cyclists on the Silverado Trail’s 5300 block. The accident occurred when lumber from a passing truck’s flatbed shifted and struck the riders.
As a result, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office alerted the public of a deadly accident obstructing the Silverado Trail between Oak Knoll Avenue and Yountville Cross Road, just beyond Napa’s city boundaries.
According to a California Highway Patrol spokesman, a 2018 Freightliner truck from Central Valley Builders was heading north when its lumber load extended from the flatbed.
More so, CHP Napa’s Officer Vincent Pompliano clarified that the overhanging lumber collided with cyclists traveling in the same direction. However, the reason for the load shift is yet to be established.
Unfortunately, one of the cyclists, a man in his 50s, died on the spot. Another rider, approximately a 45-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, the truck’s driver, Porfirio Sanchez from Vallejo, survived without injuries.
Officer Pompliano reported that it was unclear whether speed, alcohol, or drugs contributed to this Napa County bicycle crash.
