FRESNO, CA (July 20, 2019) – Shawn Milton was killed and two people were seriously injured, including a man driving under the influence, in a crash at the intersection of Kings Canyon Road and Maple Avenue.
Police say that Gustavo Blanco, 21, was traveling westbound on Kings Canyon Road around 70 to 80 miles per hour when he blew through a red light. His blue Chevy Cruz then t-boned a grey Toyota Tercel that was heading southbound on Maple Avenue.
The sheer force of the collision sent the Toyota halfway down the block. The Chevy ended up stuck in fencing on the side of the roadway. One witness stated that many bystanders sprung into action, calling 911 and attempting to help passengers of both cars involved in the crash.
40-year-old Milton was driving the Toyota, and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. His passenger, who has not yet been identified, along with Blanco, were both transported to Community Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Blanco has since been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter, as well as felony DUI. A GoFundme set up for Milton by his family stated that he was a father of five, and expecting his sixth child next month.
