Taft, CA (August 22, 2022) – Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia (35) of Bakersfield and Sergio Andres Lopez Mata (46) of Tijuana, Mexico were identified as fatalities in a traffic crash at Wood Street and Highway 33 in Taft. According to Taft Midway Driller, the crash was reported around 9:00 pm on Sunday.

Two men were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified them as Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia of Bakersfield and Sergio Andres Lopez Mata of Tijuana, Mexico.
Two other people sustained major injuries following the crash.
According to reports, Garcia and Mata were passengers in the car that collided with a semi-truck.
The driver of the car was then arrested for vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving charges. He was identified as Flurencio Martinez of Bakersfield.
