Daniel Salazar Identified as Fatality in Car Crash in Unincorporated Campo Area of San Diego
Campo, CA (May 16, 2022) – Daniel Salazar (40), a U.S. Border Patrol agent and Santee resident, died after getting into a car accident in the southern area of San Diego. According to NBC 7, the incident happened at around 6:00 am on Friday (May 13).
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, Salazar’s coworker found him and his damaged vehicle along the embankment of a rural road near state Route 94 and the international line.
Daniel Salazar crashed his vehicle and drove into a pond near Oakdale.
San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke shared with NBC 7, “this Border Patrol agent died while performing his duty, protecting our great nation and keeping our communities safe.”
Responders arrived at the scene, but they found Salazar unresponsive. In aerial footage from SkyRanger 7, Salazar’s vehicle was seen in a deep embankment. It had severe damage while some U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents and responders surrounded the area.
According to reports, Salazar was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was also on the job when the accident happened. However, some details about this accident are still not clear.
