Gilberto Cazares Payan Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver at a Pomona Taco Stand
Pomona, CA (October 16, 2022) – Gilberto Cazares Payan (52) was identified as the sole fatality in a hit-and-run crash at a taco stand near Kiwanis Park in Pomona. According to ABC7, the crash happened around 7:45 pm on Friday.

The Pomona Police Department reported a hit-and-run crash at a taco stand involving one fatality and twelve injured people near Kiwanis Park in Pomona.
Firefighters and paramedics pronounced one fatality at the scene. They also took twelve other victims to a hospital. Three of them reportedly sustained critical injuries.
Authorities and family members recently confirmed the identity of the victim. He was identified as Gilberto Cazares Payan.
Payan was said to be picking up dinner when the crash happened.
According to reports, a vehicle crashed into the taco stand and ended under the stand’s pop-up tent. The driver, only identified as a 26-year-old Pomona woman, fled the scene but eventually turned herself in before 11 pm.
Police booked her on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and-run with death/injury.
The cause of this incident remains under investigation.
