Three UC Davis Students Fatally Injured in Highway 99 Crash in Manteca
Manteca, CA (April 3, 2023) – Three UC Davis students; Minkyu Geon of Hongkong, Margarette Guinto Ventura of Virginia Beach, and Codi Orland Mateo of Pasco, Washington, were identified as the fatalities in the chain reaction crash on Highway 99 in Manteca. According to ABC10, the crash occurred Friday morning.

The University of California, Davis (UC Davis) confirmed that three of four fatalities were students.
They identified the victims as Minkyu Geon of Hongkong, Margarette Guinto Ventura of Virginia Beach, and Codi Orland Mateo of Pasco, Washington.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound Honda Accord crashed into a U-Haul towing a flatbed trailer.
This caused the U-Haul to hit a tractor-trailer, while the Honda driver made a U-turn and headed the wrong way on the north of Lathrop Road.
The Honda then crashed into a Subaru Impreza.
The Subaru sideswiped a GMB Denali towing a trailer after it veered into another lane. A Chevrolet Suburban then hit the Subaru head-on.
The Honda Accord driver and the three occupants of the Subaru Impreza died.
No further information has been released yet.
However, authorities believe that the drivers of the Honda and Chevrolet were driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
