Flavio Ariel Balderas, Micaela Balderas, and James Griffin III Fatally Injured in South Gate Crash Caused by Fleeing Suspect
South Gate, CA (February 5, 2023) – Flavio Ariel Balderas, Micaela Balderas, and James Griffin III (20) were identified as the fatalities in a South Gate crash involving a fleeing suspect on State Street at Tweedy Blvd. According to KTLA, the crash occurred around 2:00 am on Sunday.

Authorities responded to a fatal South Gate crash involving multiple vehicles and a fleeing suspect on State Street at Tweedy Blvd.
Two victims died at the scene. The third victim succumbed to their injuries after arriving at the hospital.
The son of the two victims identified them as husband and wife, Flavio Ariel Balderas and Micaela Balderas. While the mother of the other victim identified him as James Griffin III.
According to reports, a suspect in a possible catalytic converter theft attempted to flee law enforcement resulting in a pursuit in South Gate. The suspect later crashed on State Street.
This unfortunate incident remains under investigation by The Los Angeles Police Department.
A memorial was held for the victims at the intersection where the crash occurred.
