SELMA, CA (May 10, 2019) – Brianna Sanchez, 11, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99 that sent 10 people to the hospital and caused three vehicles to burst into flames.
The collision occurred around 1 p.m. near Mountain View Avenue. 60-year-old Deudiel Ramirez was driving north in their 2009 Kenworth truck when they did not notice that traffic had stopped for unknown reasons in the northbound lanes of Highway 99. They struck a 1990 Toyota pickup, which started a chain reaction crash involving three other cars.
The Kenworth then burst into flames, also setting alight the Toyota and a 2004 Lincoln Navigator that was involved.
11-year-old Brianna Sanchez was riding in the Lincoln with five other family members. Officers were able to remove her from the burning car, however she sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ten people in total were transported to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries. Ramirez was not injured in the fiery crash.
Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision. An investigation is still underway.
