Desert Hot Springs Left One Driver Fatal
Desert Hot Springs, CA (August 23, 2023) – One person succumbed to fatal injuries after a Desert Hot Springs crash. According to Desert Sun, the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
A Desert Hot Springs crash caused one driver to succumb to fatal injuries.
The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal Desert Hot Springs crash when a driver struck a barrier set up to prevent vehicles from entering a washed-out area following Hurricane Hilary.
CHP Crash Investigation Officer Bradley Kemp provided details, stating that the crash occurred on Little Morongo Road, just south of 15th Avenue.
Furthermore, sections of roads in Desert Hot Springs, including Little Morongo Road between Two Bunch Palms and Dillon Road, remain closed due to flooding from the storm.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver disregarded barricades at the intersection of Little Morongo Road and Two Bunch Palms, continuing southbound.
Subsequently, the driver proceeded over the dirt berm and crashed on the opposite side, resulting in the car catching fire.
According to Kemp, the embankment was intentionally placed as a deterrent to prevent access to the washed-out area rather than forming naturally due to flooding.
Despite this, it is still unclear if the flooding directly caused the crash.
Unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Kemp noted that it is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

More About Car Accident Liability
Various circumstances of the car accident can pinpoint the liability of damages. In some instances, thorough investigations can reveal careless behavior. This can include the simple act of recklessly turning or cutting in front of another vehicle. In terms of determining who is at fault for an accident, this can be defined by common law. Any Sacramento or Los Angeles car accident lawyer recognizes that fault has four basic levels:
- Recklessness (wanton conduct)
- Intentional misconduct
- Strict liability
However, different state laws can have variations of applicable traffic laws. For example, in some states, multiple drivers can be liable for an accident. This is why thorough investigations are important after a car accident. Having a strong case showing the liability of the at-fault party can help guarantee your compensation. Likewise, a car crash attorney can also help you determine all your options, so you can fully recover from the accident. Learn more about car accident lawyers in California here.
