According to witnesses, two drivers seemed to be in a race against each other, resulting in the crash. The crash also involved a white van, which was overturned due to the impact.
Responders arrived at the scene and transported nine people to Rady Children’s Hospital, including one with critical injuries.
Authorities took all patients to the hospital via ambulance. They also closed westbound lanes to make way for authorities to investigate. At around 5:00 PM, they fully reopened all closed lanes on I-8.
