Mary Henderson and Willa Henderson Died in Pedestrian Crash at Intersection in San Francisco
San Francisco, CA (May 23, 2022) – Mary Henderson (72) and Willa Henderson (31), from Vero Beach in Florida, died in a pedestrian accident involving a cab in San Francisco. According to NBC Bay Area, the incident happened at around 4:30 pm on Sunday.
Mary Henderson and Willa Henderson died after getting hit by a taxi at the intersection of Mission and Third streets.
According to authorities, the taxi collided with another vehicle before going into the sidewalk. The taxi then hit the mother and daughter, killing them at the scene.
The taxi driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Responders also took the taxi driver and another pedestrian to the hospital for medical care.
In an article on NBC Bay Area, the San Francisco Police Department and city leaders noted that the area is considered dangerous. They ask drivers to slow down within the area. Police also set up a mobile radar station on Third Street to monitor the area.
Marta Lindsey with Walk San Francisco shared with NBC Bay Area that this is a busy intersection with various attractions and public transit lines. She stated, “just five miles over the speed limit could be the difference between life and death for someone who’s hurt in a crash.”
She also expressed that protecting pedestrians must be a priority in terms of re-engineering the intersection and controlling traffic.
Newly-appointed South of Market supervisor Matt Dorsey also supports stricter speed enforcement in the area. He said, “the current city attorney, David Chu, when he was in the assembly, sponsored legislation that would allow for automated camera ticketing for speeding. That’s something that I would support.”

More About Pedestrian Accident Liability
Pedestrians usually get major injuries in pedestrian accidents. Sometimes, they can even cause death. When it comes to liability, it can fall on the pedestrian or driver based on various factors of the accident. Proving liability can become vague or obvious. The process generally involves finding out who acted carelessly, causing the accident. Any Los Angeles personal injury or accident lawyer will tell you that you need to show the following to prove negligence and liability:
- legal responsibility or “duty of care”
- violated or breached the duty of care
- the violation caused the accident
- the violation resulted in injuries or damages
In some cases, the driver might’ve sped down the road, hitting the pedestrian. This can put fault on the driver. Meanwhile, pedestrians can get hit by a car because they acted against traffic signals, such as jaywalking. In these instances, the pedestrian can become at fault. Other factors, such as lack of road markings and ample lighting, can also lead to pedestrian accidents. In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer can help look at all angles to determine liability. Learn more about pedestrian accident lawyers in California here.
