Nickayla Justine Abarca Died at the Scene after a Two-Vehicle Crash in Oro Grande
Oro Grande, CA (February 15, 2022) – Nickayla Justine Abarca (17) died after a head-on crash on National Trails Highway in Oro Grande. According to Yahoo News, the incident happened at around 5:40 pm on Friday.
Nickayla Justine Abarca rode a 2021 Ford Escape, occupying the front passenger’s seat.
According to authorities, Abarca sat in the front passenger’s seat of a 2021 Ford Escape. The Ford had two other passengers who sustained major injuries: a 66-year-old female driver and a 12-year-old girl.
A 44-year-old man drove the other vehicle involved in the incident. It was a 2001 Ford F-150. This man also sustained major injuries.
After the incident, authorities flew in two medical helicopters to transport the female victims. Meanwhile, responders took the male driver to the hospital via an ambulance.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident. Initially, they arrested the male driver for DUI. However, their preliminary findings suggest that the female driver of the Ford Escape veered into the northbound lane as it was going south. Also, authorities noted that Abarca wasn’t wearing a seatbelt during the collision.
