FRESNO, CA (September 27, 2019) – 19-year-old Olivia Mendoza was killed when her vehicle was pinned between two semi-trucks at the Mountain View and Clovis Avenue intersection.
Just after 7 p.m., Mendoza was traveling westbound on Mountain View Avenue in a Honda Civic when Andre Hill Jr., 31, ran a stop sign and collided with her. He then continued northbound on Clovis Avenue and struck another big rig head-on, pinning Mendoza’s Civic between the two.
Mendoza did not survive the accident. The driver of the other semi truck suffered minor injuries. Hill Jr. was given a sobriety test and reportedly could not walk in a straight line.
Hill Jr. was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, among other charges. Police believe he was high at the time of the crash.
Those that live in the area claim that intersection has seen many accidents. They say that stop signs have done nothing to prevent crashes there. Mendoza’s family has since set up a memorial for her at the intersection.
