Eduardo Villalpando, 38, had just escorted a group of children across the street and was standing on the corner of Centralia and Pioneer Streets when a speeding Dodge Challenger collided with a turning Honda Pilot SUV at the intersection.
The impact sent the Challenger careening into the street corner, smashing through a cement shopping sign and directly into Villalpando, launching him into the air.
Additionally, video footage from SuperFine Auto Spa car wash, located nearby, captured one of the car wash workers applying a makeshift tourniquet to his leg to stem the bleeding until paramedics arrived.
As a result, Eduardo Villalpando suffered the loss of his left leg. He is also unable to walk for approximately six to eight weeks, with extensive bruising and fractured ribs on both sides.
Moreover, Villalpando mentioned, “I’m thankful I’m alive and just fighting every day to get stronger. The most painful part of this experience has not been necessarily what I’m going through but having to see what my family is going through.”
Furthermore, the family has established a GoFundMe page to assist with medical expenses during Villalpando’s recovery.

More About Pedestrian Accident Liability
Pedestrians usually get major injuries in pedestrian accidents, like the case of Eduardo Villalpando in this Lakewood pedestrian crash. Sometimes, they can even cause death. When it comes to liability, it can fall on the pedestrian or driver based on various factors of the accident. Proving liability can become vague or obvious. The process generally involves finding out who acted carelessly, causing the accident. Any Los Angeles personal injury or accident lawyer will tell you that you need to show the following to prove negligence and liability:
- legal responsibility or “duty of care”
- violated or breached the duty of care
- the violation caused the accident
- the violation resulted in injuries or damages
In some cases, the driver might’ve sped down the road, hitting the pedestrian. This can put fault on the driver. Meanwhile, pedestrians can get hit by a car because they acted against traffic signals, such as jaywalking. In these instances, the pedestrian can become at fault. Other factors, such as lack of road markings and ample lighting, can also lead to pedestrian accidents. In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer can help look at all angles to determine liability. Learn more about pedestrian accident lawyers in California here.
