Suspected SR-54 DUI Crash Left One Fatal and Three Injured
El Cajon, CA (July 10, 2023) – An 84-year-old man succumbed to fatal injuries while three others were injured after a suspected SR-54 DUI crash in El Cajon. According to FOX5, the accident occurred on Friday evening.
A suspected SR-54 DUI crash involving multiple vehicles left an 84-year-old man fatal and three others injured in El Cajon.
The California Highway Patrol responded to a collision on SR-54, where a multi-vehicle crash left an 84-year-old man fatal and three other people injured.
According to authorities, an eastbound Honda Civic driven by a 32-year-old man approached the intersection of Jamacha Road and Cuyamaca College Drive West and ran a red light in the right turn lane at an unknown speed.
At the same time, a westbound Nissan Kicks driven by a 42-year-old man turned left into a shopping center parking lot south of the intersection, following a green arrow.
Behind the Nissan, an 18-year-old woman driving a Tesla Model Y was also turning left into the shopping center on a green light.
However, for reasons under investigation, the driver of the Honda Civic failed to stop at the red light and collided with the right side of the Nissan. The Honda then rotated clockwise and struck the left rear of the Tesla.
Unfortunately, one of the passengers in the Nissan, an 84-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
In addition, the driver and the second passenger, a 74-year-old female, sustained major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The present condition of both individuals remains undisclosed.
The driver of the Tesla also ended up in the hospital with minor injuries, according to the police.
The crash remains under investigation; however, authorities suspect that the driver of the Honda may have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
At this point, no information has been provided by the CHP on whether law enforcement will make an arrest in relation to the collision.
