Jacoby & Meyers championed her cause against the retail giant, securing a $1,990,000 settlement and providing her with the support and guidance she needed in her search for medical care.
Background of the Case
Martha* was shopping at Walmart when she unsuspectingly entered an aisle and slipped on clear liquid laundry soap that had carelessly been left on the floor. Landing on her right buttock, she tried to soften the impact but to no avail. Martha found herself soaked in soap.
An employee, too late to warn her, shouted and raised his hands while two other employees stood nearby. Martha filed a written report of the incident.
Impact on the Client
Suffering from widespread pain that radiated from her back to her tailbone, Martha also experienced headaches, dizziness, and nausea. To determine the root cause of her pain, she underwent multiple tests, surgeries, and received pain medication.
The incident cost Martha her job for 11 years, as she became unable to stand or walk for extended periods. Too weak to tend to her garden and often bedridden, she experienced depression and anxiety, crying for days and feeling utterly hopeless.
How Jacoby & Meyers Helped
Led by Jake Douglass and Linda Elihu, Jacoby & Meyers successfully defended Martha against the retail giant’s negligence.
The store was compelled to pay a $1,990,000 settlement for the traumatic event that left an innocent individual with severe injuries resulting from their actions.
In addition to the settlement, Jacoby & Meyers provided Martha with support and guidance in her search for appropriate medical providers and treatment.
